Lessons

All ages and skill levels are welcome!

As a piano teacher, I stress personal responsibility, consistency, excellent musicianship, and most of all, lots of fun! I also believe in encouraging through positive reinforcement and rewarding a job well done through friendly competitions and personal goal achievements.  Students also have the opportunity to earn the coveted Piano Mastery Award as well as many opportunities to showcase their talents, should they choose to.

Schedule

Lessons are typically weekly for one hour.  This allows for a more in-depth and valuable lesson where I can focus on the needs of the student without feeling rushed.  Students progress faster and are more capable with a greater knowledge base.  We stay focused and busy!
As lives become more busy and students are involved in more extracurricular activities, I understand the need for flexibility.  So, I try hard to accommodate each student’s demanding schedule by being available Monday through Sunday.

Course Overview

Lesson books are usually in a set for that student appropriate skill level.  Lessons typically consist of teaching a specific piano concept and then assigning additional music to which the student has further opportunities to work on that concept during their practice week.  An additional piece or other repertoire music relating to the current and previously learned concepts is usually added for a final check of skill and knowledge.
Flash cards and other materials may be used to further their studies.  In addition, I try to incorporate music the student likes as an added bonus when lessons permit. And finally, I require that students are always working on an advanced piece for performing, whether they choose to eventually share it with an audience or not.
Each student and parents will have access to their personal lesson chart and account information that is updated at each lesson, with a link for communication with the teacher as well as payment options.
While I have my favorite teaching resources, your piano lessons will be customized to your unique learning needs and goals. And I will be with you every step of the way as you navigate the process, develop your musical skills, and grow your knowledge.  Lessons focus strongly on theory, sight reading, and technique using lesson books, performance pieces, activities, games, and flash cards.  A variety of musical types are used to give balance to each lesson but a student’s favorite pieces will be included throughout the year.
