Let’s get a few housekeeping items out of the way…

Each student will need a 3-hole binder for papers and songs with a large sturdy pencil pouch for flash cards and other supplies.  It is also recommended that they bring a tote bag or backpack to carry their binder and lesson books.  Lesson material costs are extra and average about $150 a year.

I teach year round lessons as it takes too long to catch students back up after a summer off, but accommodations can easily be made for vacations, sports, and such. Lessons are taught on most minor holidays.  Lessons that fall on major holidays can easily be rescheduled.

I understand that life happens.  If a student is going to miss a lesson, they must reschedule if possible to keep lessons consistent.  I will at times have to also reschedule, so I am mindful of the occasional need.

Consistency is key and parental or family involvement is crucial. I do expect students to practice at least 5 days a week. How much time is dependent on the student.  Are they improving and accomplishing the items on their lesson chart? Will they be ready for their lesson? Are they using the time to really practice or are they just playing? The quicker a student can develop a habit of daily practice, the more successful they will become as a pianist and the more enjoyable the process will be. Think quality vs. quantity.

For younger students, parents should be familiar with their student’s responsibilities each week and work as a team to make sure they are prepared and confident when their lesson rolls around.

Each student will have a yearly check up to make sure they are on track with their goals and that the student and teacher are still a good fit to ensure success.

Parents or other guests may sit in on lessons, and discuss concerns or questions with me at any time.  My door or phone is always open if a student has questions or needs help during their practice week.
